A non-profit organization, TRIO works to improve the quality of life of organ and tissue donors, transplant candidates and recipients, and their families through support, advocacy, education, and awareness. For example, the Lend a Helping Ear Program supports individuals affected by organ transplantation by connecting them with volunteers willing to listen and share their own experiences. Additionally, TRIO works to communicate the concerns of transplant recipients, donors, and families to all levels of government. While ensuring that donors, patients, and their families are kept abreast of information and developments in the area of organ and tissue donation, TRIO also promotes the importance of organ donation to the general public.
In addition to his role as director of the Mary Lea Johnson Richards Organ Transplantation Center at NYU Langone Medical Center, Dr. Lewis Teperman also serves as an attending physician. Specializing in liver transplantation, Dr. Lewis Teperman sits on the board of several organizations dedicated to organ transplant practices and patients. Those boards include the American Liver Foundation and the Manhattan branch of the Transplant Recipients International Organization (TRIO).
